🤘 on annoying questions
daily
Sometimes I’ll feel a spike of annoyance when someone asks me something simple.
“Did you check the logs?”
“Is the kid buckled in?”
So far, the answer to both of those questions has been yes 100% of the time. But annoyance is the wrong response. Both questions are well-meaning and important.
Pilots have checklists. Long checklists of simple, routine tasks.
“Is the plane fueled?”
“Is the windshield clean?”
I’m willing to bet most pilots have never had to say no to either of those questions when they were going through their checklist - but they ask them anyways, every single time.
Questions like these can feel almost accusatory - as if I’m dumb enough to not check the logs or forget to buckle up my kid’s seatbelt.
But they also force me to consider whether or not I actually did forget. There’s no harm in asking - and there’s obviously harm in forgetting to do up my kid’s seatbelt.
The point is don’t get annoyed at these kinds of questions. Pilots have checklists.
