tech leaders shouldn't care about tech (?!)
daily
A tech leader’s job is to make good technical decisions.
It’s much easier to do that when you don’t suffer from shiny-new-object syndrome.
Technical people sometimes forget that tech is a means to an end. Not THE means to the end. Not the end itself. A means.
A good tech leader understands this. Technical decisions hinge on outcomes. Sometimes that might mean relying on an old Excel program for a while. It might mean committing to sticking with Rails for another 5 years. It might mean stitching together SaaS solutions and manual processes.
Enthusiasm about tech is a good thing. It means you’re keeping up with the industry. But that enthusiasm needs to be contained when it comes time to make real decisions.
