🤘 the future is future-y

AI is making programming even more commoditized than it already was.
That’s bad for “tech people” generally - devs, agencies, dev tool companies, recruiters.
Then again, it’s also putting pressure on copywriters, graphic designers, administrators, paralegals and clerks, generally anyone who sits at a computer for their job.
It’s kinda bad for everyone, right?
There are some common takes here: “AI is just fancy autocomplete, it doesn’t actually reason” or “there will always need to be a human who can translate business requirements for the AI” or “every new technology has created new kinds of jobs.”
Maybe? Who knows?
That’s sort of the point. Who knows? No one. If there’s an author or thinker out there with the right prediction, we’ll only know in retrospect.
The only thing we can say with any kind of certainty is that the future looks a lot different now than it did in 2021.
There are exactly two ways to prepare for this:
- Move up a few wealth classes.
- Be as adaptable as you can.
Most of us can’t do #1, unfortunately. Get working on that SaaS, I guess.
All of us can do #2. We won’t all succeed, again unfortunately. Adaptation is a process, not a result. Actually, it’s processes. There are many ways to be adaptable - taking risks, creating room for error, proactive education or lifestyle changes.
The point is that you need to become adaptable. Whatever that looks like for you.
